Pickleball in Shawnee, Oklahoma

Shawnee Recreation Center is the practical hub for local pickleball. The indoor gym has scheduled sessions six days a week, including beginner hours, age 55 and older play, evening sessions, and weekend play. Most sessions carry only a small drop in fee, and the schedule makes it easy to arrive without organizing a private group first.

Where to Play

• Shawnee Recreation Center Gym - The indoor gym at 401 N Bell Ave hosts the city's recurring pickleball sessions. Weekday morning and afternoon blocks serve daytime players, Tuesday and Thursday evenings fit after work schedules, and Saturday morning gives visitors and local players a weekend option. The Recreation Center is the place to choose when you want an established group rather than an empty court. Shawnee's other outdoor court information is not current enough to publish with the same confidence.

Getting Started

New players should begin at one of the Recreation Center's Monday beginner sessions. Adults age 55 and older can join free beginner play from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Players age 13 and older have a beginner session from 5:00 to 6:00 PM for a small fee. These blocks offer a more comfortable entry point than stepping into one of the longer general sessions.

After learning the flow of the game, move into the regular session that matches your age and schedule. The longer blocks provide more time to meet local players and gain experience.

Weekly Organized Play

• Monday - Beginner play runs from 9:00 to 10:00 AM for ages 55 and older and from 5:00 to 6:00 PM for ages 13 and older.
• Tuesday and Thursday - Ages 55 and older play free from 8:00 to 11:00 AM. Ages 13 and older play from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for a drop in fee.
• Wednesday and Friday - Ages 13 and older play from noon to 3:00 PM for a drop in fee.
• Saturday - Ages 13 and older play from 8:00 to 11:00 AM for a drop in fee.

Visiting and Looking for a Game?

If you are coming alone, go to Shawnee Recreation Center during a general session that fits your age. Tuesday and Thursday evening play is the easiest choice for most working age visitors. Wednesday and Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings are also open to players age 13 and older. Pay the listed drop in fee and join the scheduled group.

Players age 55 and older have a free morning option on Tuesday and Thursday. Brand new players should use Monday's beginner hour instead of dropping directly into a longer general session.
